£3.9 million to boost tree population in the UK

This ambitious project will help the government to meet its target to plant 30,000 hectares of trees per year by 2025.

The project will introduce new patches of green land to towns and cities, as £2.5 million of the budget will be invested into finding new ways of planting within these congested areas. This is to make the process more effective for local communities and to ensure the treatment of the trees and green life.

The project also aims to reduce the risks of floods, with a generous £1.4 million being invested solely to this purpose. This will be achieved by planting over 850,000 trees across 15 projects that will protect up to 50 properties and an estimated 160km of river by limiting the flow of water.
