Utility SwopShop Weekly Market Insights Week Ending 9th May

Gas

British natural gas prices rose on Thursday, boosted by warmer weather forecast. NBP spot price increased by 1.5%, reaching 134.20 p/therm. Likewise, on the forward curve, the Summer 2025 gas price gained over 2%, exceeding 127 p/therm, boosted by geopolitical uncertainty and the potential easing of US-China trade tensions.

Power

The UK spot electricity price fell by 2.4% to stand at 83.80 GBP/MWh, amid increase in wind generation in the UK. On the forward curve, the Summer 2025 electricity price increased by nearly 1% to reach 85.56 GBP/MWh, following the upward movement in gas prices.
