Utility SwopShop Weekly Market Insights Week Ending 27th March

Gas

Ongoing Middle East tensions lifted British gas prices on Thursday after Iran rejected a US-backed peace proposal, heightening concerns over potential LNG supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz. The NBP spot contract rose by 5.4% to 136.70 p/therm, while the Summer 2026 contract increased by 4.6% to 137.77 p/therm.

Power

The UK spot power price surged by 16% to 113.50 GBP/MWh on Thursday, driven by forecasts of colder weather and weaker renewable generation.

Along the forward curve, the UK Summer 2026 contract increased by 3.6% to 102.73 GBP/MWh, tracking firmer gas and carbon prices.
