Utility SwopShop Weekly Market Insights Week Ending 16th May

Gas

The British spot gas price rose by 2.5% on Thursday to 81 p/therm, supported by reduced Norwegian supply nominations.

On the forward curve, the Winter 2025 delivery contract added 0.4% to 94.40 p/therm, as optimism around the upcoming Russia-Ukraine peace talks faded due to the absence of both the Russian and U.S. presidents, diminishing hopes for a major breakthrough.

Power

The UK spot electricity price fell by 4.5% on Thursday to 75.27 GBP/MWh, driven by milder weather forecasts. Meanwhile, on the forward curve, the UK Winter 2025 contract edged 0.4% higher at 84.35 GBP/MWh, following gains in gas and carbon markets.
