Week ending: 13/06/2025

Gas

British spot gas price climbed by more than 4% on Thursday to 86.50 p/therm, driven by worries about reduced French nuclear generation this summer and persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Further along the curve, the Winter 2025 contract edged 1.2% higher at 96.71 p/therm amid EU storage levels sitting at 52% — roughly 22 percentage points lower than at the same time last year.

Power

UK spot power price surged by more than 57% on Thursday to reach 79.50 GBP/MWh, propelled by lower wind generation and unexpected outages at Sizewell B1 and B2, which took 1,260 MW offline.

On the forward market, the UK Winter 2025 power contract rose by 1.4% to settle at 88.13 GBP/MWh, buoyed by gains in gas and carbon prices.
