Utility SwopShop Weekly Market Insights Week Ending 27th February

Gas

The British spot gas price soared by 4.7% to 76.80 p/therm on Thursday on expectations of marginally cooler weather, although temperatures are still forecast to remain above seasonal averages.

Further out on the curve, the Summer 2026 contract gained almost 4% to 76.71 p/therm amid concerns about falling storage levels, with stocks in the European Union at 30.3%, over 15 percentage points below the previous month and the lowest level since April 2022.

Power

UK spot electricity price jumped by 6.4% to 73.95 GBP/MWh on Thursday following a steep decline in wind generation, which is projected to drop below typical seasonal levels. On the forward curve, the UK Summer 2026 power contract increased by 2% to 69.35 GBP/MWh, tracking gains in gas markets.
