Gas

British gas prices moved higher on Thursday. The NBP spot contract rose by 3.5% to 85.80 p/therm, supported by stronger gas-for-power demand amid lower renewable output. Further along the curve, the Summer 2026 contract advanced by 1.3% to 73.39 p/therm, supported by revised temperature forecasts prolonging the mid-February cold spell and ongoing concerns over tightening supply, as European storage levels edged down towards 39%.

Power

In the power market, UK spot prices surged by nearly 7% to 86.91 GBP/MWh, amid reduced renewable generation. In contrast, the Summer 2026 contract declined by 1% to just above 72 GBP/MWh, as plunging carbon prices weighed on the forward markets.
